The basics
What is a metal print?
A metal print is a photo sealed into the coating of an aluminium panel. The dyes are heated until they turn to gas, bond with the coating, then cool in place. The result is a bright, sharp image with deep contrast that’s waterproof and doesn’t need glass or a frame.
Think of it less like a photo on a sheet and more like a photo inside a surface. There’s no paper to curl, no glass to crack and nothing to yellow. Hang one in a bathroom that fogs up every morning, or a hallway that catches afternoon sun, and it’ll look the same years from now.

How dye-sublimation works
Print in reverseYour photo is printed as a mirror image onto transfer paper using sublimation dyes.
Press with heatA heat press at around 200°C (400°F) turns the dyes into a gas that bonds with the panel’s coating.
Cool and sealAs the panel cools, the image locks in beneath the surface. Then we check it by hand before packing.

Who makes your print
Who actually prints your order?
We do. Metal Prints Canada has been printing photos onto ChromaLuxe aluminium since 2021, from our Edmonton studio. Orders are not forwarded to a third-party lab or shipped in from overseas, which is why a problem can be fixed by the people who made the print.
Max, Founder, started the business out of frustration with how photographs were being presented — beautiful images ending up flat behind glass or soft on canvas. That is still the point of the place.
Prints are pressed on a Geo Knight DK20S heat press. We have made more than 20,000 prints for customers across Canada so far.

Metal vs canvas
Are metal prints better than canvas?
For photographs, usually yes. Metal holds finer detail and richer colour, and it resists water, UV light and scratches, while canvas can sag, stain and fade over time. Canvas still makes sense for painterly artwork where you want a soft, textured look.
If you’re printing a photograph with lots of fine detail, like a landscape, a wedding portrait or a close-up of your dog’s whiskers, metal will show far more of it. If you’re reproducing a painting and want it to feel soft and textured, canvas is a reasonable choice.

How do I clean and care for a metal print?
Wipe it with a soft microfibre cloth, either dry or lightly dampened with water. For fingerprints, add a drop of mild dish soap to the water. Skip paper towels, scouring pads and harsh chemical cleaners. The sealed surface doesn’t absorb anything, so dust and smudges come off easily.
